During the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic we remain committed to providing as safe an environment as possible for our campers.
We are monitoring the official guidance from the CDC and the Virginia Department of Health. At this time, August County is designated as "low" community spread and masking is not required. Accordingly, if community spread is “low” at the start of camp, we will not require masking. However, campers may choose to mask at any time, and we will support those who choose to wear a mask. We ask that campers with symptoms, a positive test, or exposure to someone with COVID-19 wear a mask. If official guidelines change between now and camp, or our community spread level changes, we will inform all registered families. The majority of the day will take place outside; however, when we are together inside the greenhouse or high tunnels for lessons, the doors and/or sides will be propped open/rolled up to allow for fresh airflow. This includes the Underground Classroom Bus visit: all doors will remain open for ventilation. We will use hand sanitizer and/or handwashing at various points throughout the day and always before and after bathroom breaks and eating. Campers will be in small age-based groups, with a maximum 8 to 1 student to instructor ratio. As of March 2022, all current Project GROWS staff are fully vaccinated. We will make every effort to encourage our summer camp counselors to be vaccinated as well.
