Join volunteers from Friends of the Blue Ridge Parkway Humpback Rocks Chapter for a family-friendly hike and exploration of the Appalachian Trail. Families will meet at the picnic area of Humpback Rocks where children will make their own trail mix for the hike. We will then have the chance to interact with pelts of animals native to the area, including a bear!
The hike will be a casual paced adventure giving families the opportunity to explore and learn about the AT. We will learn about hiking safety and etiquette along the way. At the peak, we will rest, have a snack and story and enjoy a gorgeous panoramic view of the Shenandoah Valley.
Participants will receive a full water bottle as a keepsake of the hike. Backpacks are available to borrow.
(Please note that the hike is NOT Humpback Rocks. It is another segment of the Appalachian Trail further down the parkway that is appropriate for young children and adults carrying small children in carriers.)
